- approach
the area on the M6 motorway
- exit at junction 41 - signed - Wigton B5305 (point A on the map)
- follow this road past Hutton-in-the-Forest where there is a sharp left hand bend shortly followed by a sharp right hand bend
- continue past the Upfront Gallery on the left - (ahead are the aerials of a BBC radio station)
- pass two turnings on the left for Skelton - but after the second turning be prepared to turn left up a narrow road - signed - Ellonby / Pringle House (point B on the map)
- follow this road up to a T junction and turn left
- continue towards the village of Ellonby passing the village sign opposite a playing field on the right
- pass a farm on the right
- a junction on the right is reached signed to Lamonby
- Sycamore House is opposite this junction on the left
- continue beyond the junction to the end of a sandstone barn on the left and turn left, over a cattle grid, into the courtyard of Sycamore House
- Sycamore Cottage is on the right hand side of this courtyard
